About Jerry Northington

Jerry Northington is not a professional politician, yet he embodies many of the qualities we would like to see in our leaders. When asked to serve his country, he went to Vietnam and joined the 4th Infantry Division as a communications chief in an infantry company as they patrolled the Central Highlands. He saw firsthand the devastation that war brings to both the soldier and the civilian. He learned that fallen troops are not just statistics, but real people with friends, families, and communities that will bear the scars of loss years after the war is over.

Professional Life

Like his father, Jerry went on to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, and was asked to teach neurology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine for four years. He eventually helped to establish a veterinary specialty hospital, and continues his practice as a veterinarian with a practice limited to neurology.

As a scientist and healthcare professional, Jerry has had to develop listening, problem-solving, case management and other skills that are so lacking in the halls of Congress today. As a small businessman, he has had to learn how to stretch a dollar and keep good records. As a teacher, he has learned to communicate and motivate others to work toward a goal.

Family Life

Jerry is married and has a grown son and a teenage stepdaughter. He and his wife Suzanne enjoy gardening and playing and singing the old-time music of the Appalachian mountains together.

Congressional seats belong to the people. The time has come for a Representative to work for the good of all the people and not just the good of corporate America.   Listen to Jerry and Suzanne's music

We share our music with all who are interested. Life for my family, my friends, and myself is all about sharing and working to make life better for all who pass through our lives. Similar hopes for lives made better drive this campaign for Congress.

Jerry is a lifelong Democrat and a blogger on Daily Kos and several other political blog-sites, writing under the name "possum." Not content to advocate peace without actively doing something about it, he also is an active member of Delaware Pacem in Terris and participates in weekly vigils against the war. His letters to the editor have been published frequently in the Wilmington-based News Journal.

Leadership Qualities

Throughout his life, Jerry Northington has been seen by his peers as a leader. Fellow soldiers in Vietnam depended on his communication skills. His clients and his patients have depended on his veterinary skills and his dedication to their well-being.

The people of Delaware deserve a leader who will bring a lifetime of honesty, pragmatism and compassion to the task of representing them in Congress. When they vote for Jerry Northington, that is the leader they will get.

"Our country must change course. We as a nation must gather together as citizens and take back our government. All of us deserve a real voice in our government. We all deserve the protections of our Constitution. We all deserve a shelter at night and food on the table, and we all deserve a job that pays enough to support a family."
